Gallon or length of tank is more important?

Hi guys, have a question to ask.

Is the gallon of the tank more important or length more important?

Eg:

4ftx2.5ftx2.5ft tank which is 180gallon and a 6ftx2ftx2ft tank is also a 180gallon tank. So which is better? Thanks.

I will go for the longer since 2 feet is a wide enough length for most fish

Imho, width wise I will go for is 2.5ft..reason being its easier to do scaping n more 3D look..height wise 2ft is enough..reason being easier for maintenance..length wise go for the max u can (budget & space)..so that u won't regret later n wanting to upgrade..

Oh, and lets say a certain fish the recommended tank size for the fish is 180gallon. Both the 4x2.5x2.5 and 6x2x2 also can fit the fish right?

If you're talking about gallons per inch of fish, then it's not a problem. Total volume is more important

I will go 622.....2.5ft height is a killer to do maintenance

6x2x2 or 4x2.5x2.5 will have more swimming space for a fish? Or its about the same? To be exact 6x2x2 is around 179gallon while 4x2.5x2.5 is 187gallon.

I think 622 would be better? More space for the fish to "sprint" without stopping, but idk I'm not a fish haha

622 got for fish that need to actively swim.. as long as the fish can turn without doing a '3 point turn' good enough.. unless you are gonna keep those unicorn tang or super large angel

Both for Marine & Rachu Tank.

I guess Most Fishes swims from Left to Right, not Top to Bottom.

I also think that 622 should be a better choice ...

For marine.. i would for 6ft x 2.5ftWide) x 2ft(height) as you can have enough space to scape your rock and allows you to keep any different species of fish.

Yeah, after hearing so much advice for the bro/sis over here. Plan to upgrade my 4x2.5x2.5 to 6x2.5x2.5. (next year hopefully) Cause sound logical that most fish swim from left to right than bottom to top. But if the fish swim round and round means the 4x2.5x2.5 is better than the 6x2x2?

Glad you love this topic bro. Cause been keep thinking and thinking. Some people have the same gallon size of tank as me but its different in length. So curious if those fishes that can kept within 180gallon tank, does the same logic apply to my tank. So yeah, wanna clear my doubts.

I feel that the width of a tank is important due to the amount of corals I can stack.. however most of time time I can't see what's behind so also no point :/ hight too tall also require stronger lighting

Also, due to space constraint..... 622 might not be practical for some. IN return, have to build 'Vertical' than 'Horizontal' ..

Go for 3 ft width if space allow, you will be amazed how easy it is to scape your rock and maintain your tank. It will also give you a " Depth " look

Personally, I think there is a very subjective subject;

There are a few factors base on your location and space where you put the tank.

The size may have to be proportionate with your stuff in the same area as your tank.

My preference is the longer the better ...

If can go for 6 x 2.5 x 2 or 6 x 2.2 x 1.8
