bubble magus 5 overflowing

I recently purchased the bm5 and today is the first time I've turned it on. within 10s it would fill up the cup and overflow even on the lowest setting. its stilling at 7" of water which is below what is recommended between 9 to 11". I'm totally lost and I need some help. anyone know why it's like this? how do I resolve this

My guess is you should increase the water level to the suggested water level. As the depth of the protein skimmer also affects the level at which the bubble is produced

Btw im using the reef octopus nw sss150...when i adjust the settings towards minimum..the bubble level in the cone actually increases...maybe you can try going to max?

for bubble magus when it is at minimum setting , the valve is set to close and the water level at the highest . that's why it is over flowing .

when it is at maximum setting the valve is actually set to open .

it is kinda of opposite .

Adjust the valve to Max... If it still overflows, shift the skimmer and push this portion against the glass...

Adjust the position of the skimmer bit by bit until the desired level... Maybe it's still breaking in... Give it some time... I've had good experience with BM skimmers...

I'm using BM5 - I also have the same problem in the beginning. It should settle down once you break-in. Otherwise it should be the level of your water.

I tried adjusting it to the max already, still overflowing. I thought my skimmer was spoilt so I tried placing it into newly mix salt water, the skimmer didn't overflow at all even at min. immediately when I placed it back into the sump, it overflows again not water what water lvl or what setting

Do u have sand in the skimmer compartment? Or any other stuff that could block the water exit hole at the bottom of the skimmer?

no I don't, my skimmer is just by itself with the return pump

no, my tank just finished cycling that's wht I turned the skimmer on. I don't get why it won't overflow in my newly mixed salt water but goes crazy and overflows in my sump

Check your salinity... It may be too high...

Just let the skimmer run. Take off the collecting head. Tmr confirm okay liao. The skimmer knows u anxious to start adding livestocks so its playing with u.

LOL! Most likely it's breaking in lah... Wait a few days... If there's no livestock in there, there won't be much / nothing to skim... Just let it overflow loh... Once it finishes his tantrum, it should skim just fine...

it only comes with a dial that says min to max with numbers in between. I tried all settings it still overflows

Is your skimmer at the recommended water level liao?

Try putting ur skimmer at a diff compartment of your sump so that water entering your skimmer is not that fast/ slow?

Possible to adjust your collection cup to higher so that the bubbles (water) has to travel higher and will lost its speed?

Hi bro, raise the level of skimmer by placing a plastic box underneath, like Tupperware etc.. Your water level might too high. I had the same problem before. Once your water mature, slowly adjust the knob to the prefer level and remove your plastic box.

I dont think so, skimming is a form of mechanical filter, the no2 no3 in the water has to be really super turbo high to impact the physical property of water... just my guess tho

Bro... The skimmer is just working like it should. Mine took a few days to stabilize.
