Planted
Anyone tried this method to monitor your reef tank when you are unable to view it due to work or long hour away from home? If you do, do you have any webcam to recommend for reefing? Many thanks in advance.
joby553
Was suppose to monitor maid but I use to check my my tang more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SRC Member Ahhyi Posted August 27, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 27, 2014 I use a Dlink 5020L for my tank. I actually wanted to get the HD version. But figures the connection will be slow. In the end got this VGA ip camera. It's good enough for me. I can see if there is any problem with the equipment
Planted
Thanks guys! But in terms of coral "fluffiness" etc, can still capture? My idea is to monitor the corals and also to enjoy it while away from tank. ^^ Joby553, yours seem clear but if zoom in, can see clearly as u mentioned that u use to observe ur tang more. Heh. Ahhyi, what is the damage like? ^^

SRC Member Ahhyi Posted August 27, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 27, 2014 I buy at $109. Very easy to setup. Very not HD. I used a HD cam before. But accessing through phone outside is a bane. Due to the Internet speed.

SRC Member Angel Keeper Posted August 28, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2014 I'm using Dlink HD 5220 model. The HD quality is not bad... But you need to position maybe at about 5 meters from the tank? It can be pan tilt remotely as well...

SRC Member Ahhyi Posted August 28, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2014 If u set the resolution too high. Will it lag when u are accessing from your phone? I face that problem with my aztech HD cam. Or it's probably the brand.

Planted
Wow. So many good advices! Thank you everyone. Hopefully we can source out better cam for us to enjoy our reefing experience. Then we can have a forum where we can showcase our tank at any point of time ^^ online gallery/exhibition. ^^
Planted
For brothers using, if you guys don't mind can screenshot or record a segment with the brand/model so we can compare and get a better brand for our reefing experience? SRC Member Angel Keeper Posted August 29, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2014 For mine, almost instantaneous... At HD, it's only lagging by a few milliseconds... However, advised to use 4G network connectivity...

SRC Member Hon Posted August 29, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2014 Actually HD or non-HD doesn't make much of a different. What you need is an Optical Zoom IP-cam. Not dgital zoom, but optical zoom. It's like looking thru' a binocular, and zoom into the object you are observing. I will try to take some picture of my tank with 1x zoom (original) up till 27x zoom to show you the output. Currently cam is offline as I setup for test and box it for future use.
