Steps for fowlr tank

Recommended Posts

Hey reefers !

As I'm new to the hobby, first time building up the tank .

Currently I have ordered a 2ft cube with sump and it will arrive in few days time ! Can't wait !

I have already purchase the skimmer, return pump and wavemaker .

May I have the steps to take to cycle the tank .

E.G. Install the skimmer, return pump and add salt water and run the tank add live rocks followed by sands or which one first .

Step by step would be appreciated ! Like when to put which item in and which equipment and all !

Thanks so much in advance !

Heres what i did.

Setup tank, sump, plumbing ->

Add in all equipment needed in sump (skimmer,return, reactors,auto top off system)->

Place lighting and all electrical cords correctly-->

Fill up with Rodi water-->

Fire up system and test return pump, piping and tank for leaks-->

Add in wavemakers-->

Add in salt and let it mix till u get correct salinity (1.025/026)-->

Add in rocks followed by sand-->

Add sand in refugium if using any-->

Test reactors, skimmers and all other equipments (you may choose to leave the skimmer on or off through the cycle)-->

Ensure the skimmer is sitted at the correct water level recommanded for the make and modal-->

Start your auto top off system if any-->

Add any bacteria additives u might want to use-->

Kickstart the cycle(many ways)-->wait--->wait--->wait -->

no more ammonia and nitrite, nitrate in acceptable levels-->

put in a clean up crew-->

wait--->

put in fish

Gd luck.

Thanks for the detailed explaination !

Can I also ask is it advisable to use half NSW and another half of salt water mix ?

As I don't have a ro/di machine . Is it ok to use those alkaline drinking machine to filter the water ? Thanks again !

You can mix NSW and aged salt water mix. If you intent to use the Alkaline drinking water, do test the PH is if it is not too high or too low.

Try to have alot of swimming space in your scaping, and an over sized skimmer if you intend to keep more fishes.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your advice !

Will the alkaline machine act as the same as a ro/di machine if I can control the right PH ? To like prevent algae growth .

I'm using a bubble magus curve 5 for the 2ft cube is it sufficient ? As my sump tank is only 1.5ft .
