Green culture is an awesome site, thanks for the intro! I wonder if things like baobabs are available in SG. My dream would be to get a cooled glasshouse to grow temperate phals together with marine fishes. Save on chiller hahaha

Phals are easy to grow but hard to flower. Those Taiwan Phals especially. Beautiful but flowers perhaps once a year. Just don't over water the plants. Cooled glasshouse will be great, can then also do some temperate flower like tulips, daffodils and even strawberries.

Quote from my fren.. Buy those that can flower in our climate.. Haha.. Although taiwan climate is too much difference from us, no all taiwan orchids can flower in SG..

I wonder if anyone owns cooked glasshouses in SG apart from gardens by the bay haha

Not only GBB have, Hortpark also have 4 cooled glasshouse, cos they have a glass house full of highland nepenthes, was drooling outside the glasshouse..

We can do a small one at home with a fish tank, styrofoam, chiller, fan and mister..

just came back from the national orchid garden and singapore garden festival. its amazing to see the phals blooming in the orchid garden despite being in our tropical climate.

and the garden festival had so many different types of orchids. really never knew SG had such an active orchid scene

grow hydrangea!

I believe they will look amazing in a cluster, and with phals as a backdrop

Was there too whole day since morning... Some phals can bloom very well in our climate without any problems.. SGF is once every 2 years..

My understanding is that they need a 10 degree drop in temperature in order to bloom, but apparently it's not the case which is great!

I feel that one of the best orchid nurseries at the exhibition was woon leng. They had the best variety. Not sure if anyone has other recommendations. Will be paying woon leng a visit tmr. Apparently they grow the phals locally.

Some will require a drop in temp at night to do well some can do without or can do with our temp drop at night..

Woon Leng sells the more popular orchids you can find in Sg and they also have some exotic ones from time to time..
