Do Anthias survive alone?

Recommended Posts

Bros,

Just bought 3 small Princess anthias from LFS yesterday night. 1 didnt survive and another no where to be found. Might be hiding in some LR.

I only see 1 now but it seems terrified. and hiding. It is not feeding this morning.

Do you think they will survive or I need to get a few more princess?

Can anyone advise. :thanks:

I'm not sure on the difficulty of princess anthias. However, anthias usually take quite some time to get used to your tank before swimming out into the open.

You should try feeding newly hatched brine shrimp to initiate a feeding response. Once they start eating you can mix other foods like cyclopeeze in.

Seeing their size, it is best you feed them regularly about 4-5 small meals a day. Small anthias lose weight rapidly if not fed adequately.

Always something more important than fish.

I now only have frozen brine and mysis shrimp in stock. Can you advise where I can get the newly hatched brine shrimp?

Much appreciated!

:D must hatch your own.. want some eggs? I got.. never use..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

I seriously think you should stop getting more to prevent more death ;););) Now let us know where you get the princess from and livestock in your tank. Water parameter and other stuff will be appreciated if you provide them

Well the update now is confirm 2 death and 1 survival. The one that survived is now swimming in the open but is still not feeding on frozen brine and mysis and even cyclo.

BTW I have not gotten to get more princess anthias cos i dont want to risk more death and $$$. Thats why I am asking for advice.

Water parameters are

Salinty :1.023

Nitrite: 0

Nitrate: 0.1

PH: 8.4

KH: 10

Any advice? Saw that Barlett is one of the easiest to start with. Might probably think of having a good at that first.

First, you need to figure out why they can't survive in yr tank.

IMO, the anthias you bought may not be acclimatise probably, resulted to their death. :(

How I do it:

1. Place the newly bought fish in small pail together with the water from the packet.

2. Using dripping method; to drip tank water into the pail for 1 hr.

3. Provide aeration to the pail.

4. Off the light in the tank. Put the fishes into the tank.

5. Next day, try to feed them mysis shrimp, cyclopeeze.

As choosing the species of anthias to keep. Try dispar anthias first as they more cheaper, as compare to barlett. ;)

hippo said what I wanna say.

anthias have no problem surving alone but they are very shy fishes and takes long time to be stable in new tanks. they feed mysis shrimp, brine and planktons. I hate when anthias eats my plankton for my corals. why he just follow others to eat pellets/flakes?
