Bros,

I have a pair of clownfish in my tank already (black ice and snowflake).

The female is quite big, around 4 - 5 inch. The male amount 2.5 inch.

Since they have paired up, they are very aggresive towards new clowns.

I intend to add 1 or 2 more pair of similar clowns.

What is the best way to introduce the new clowns?

I notice that they have certain behavior that needs to be understood.

I initially I had a black ice pair living together for almost a year. I am not sure if they have paired up although the smaller one always followed the big one (which is the 4-5 inch female today) since the male was 1.5".

When I introduced a new pair of snowflake (2+ inch and 1.5+ inch) what happen was the new 2+ inch snowflake bullied the 1.5" black ice to stress (when I noticed that I moved it to the refugium but it died a day after). The 2+ inch tried to bond with the big female and started bullying the 1.5+ inch. The big female didn't seem to care. So I rushed to move the 1.5+ inch snowflake to the refugium. I suspect that the black ice was not paired as the male had not reached sexual maturity.

I like clownfish and want to introduce more but based on past experience it seems a bit intricate; needs to understand their social behavior.

Imo, bringing a 2nd pair of clownfish needs to consider a few points here:

1st the tank is big enough to accommodate both pairs. 2nd new fish size should be equal size or bigger than the current pair. last, take out the current pair to completely redo the landscape and introduce both pairs together with the temporary light off to create a illusion that both pairs of clown fish are " new" here.

Hope it helps,

Cheers,

My tank setting:
Size : 48" x 24" x 24"
Return pump: 1 x Vectra S2, 1 x Eheim 1264
Skimmer: Skimz DC skimmer SV203
Lighting : Maxspect Razor R420R 160W
Chiller : 1hp drop coil compressor
Wave maker : 2 x Nero 5 , 1 x Tunze 6055

Top up : Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155

I have 3 pairs clown fish. 2Pairs true perc n 1pair black/white clown one of my 2ft tank.

A) true perc ~ 1.5" + 1"

B) black/white ~ 2.5" + 2"

C) true perc ~ 2.5" + 2"

A & B were introduced together, at first B will chase A if A is near B's territory but no biting or torn fin, just chasing only.

Few months later, C was introduced. Then A n B become good friend, can stay together and no chasing. Although C n B not good friends but also not enemies. They will only stared 瞪眼 at each other but won't chase or fight. A which is smallest in size keep a distance away from C.

They have their house aka rbta n gbta of their own. I think the bta help in a way also.

Hope this help. Thanks
