Titus' Pico Tank

Hi guys, so I finally made up my mind to set up this thread after hesitating for quite awhile... :)

I have always liked keeping fishes because of my dad who socialised me into it. He kept fishes while I was still young and although I wasn't so fascinated by them then, I gradually fell in love with them. As my dad grew older, he didn't have the time and energy to keep up with his hobby so it remained dormant for quite a while. So... I was the only one left to bring the spark back into this interest that he had and I went on to start a freshwater tank. 2ft became 3ft which eventually became a 5ft x 2.5ft x 2ft tank which I have now. Behind the scenes my dad would always be the one providing the vitamin M (money) while I provided the passion, energy and rashness of youth to get things done. We soon found a good equilibrium for this win-win situation and through this journey he taught me how to be wiser in making decisions and having better planning.

I was enjoying FW so much as I liked how predatory the fishes were and always enjoyed watching them during feeding time. I loved to see them progress and grow huge and waited in anticipation that one day they might breed. There were many ups and downs of failing and wasting learning but at the end of the day I managed to learn a lot. So it was during the 2013 Aquarama that the whole marine side came on board. I went to the Aquarama with my dad and we were about to leave already when 2 small clownfishes on display caught my dad's attention and he wanted to keep them. He tried psychoing me to get them but I was reluctant as I knew that reefing is a whole new ball game altogether and I didn't have the knowledge nor the money to keep up with it. But he continue to plant thoughts into my head and went on to buy the small little Rainbow Farm tank that I am using till today. I am sorry to say the 2 clowns didn't make it but there, my journey into the salty side began :)

Since I had no experience, knowledge and finance, I decided to be a minimalist, slowing adding one equipment after another. From just a tank and some unknown salt mix and a floating device (not sure what is it called), slowly to using better salt and running fans and a LED strip, then to dosing some supplements. I am surprised to say that though my tank crashed once because I went overseas, everything went well with the minimalist concept that I had. I was quite shocked to say that things actually could work out. Zoas had nice colours and multiplied and SPS had nice polyp extensions and grew till I have to frag one now. Growth might not be as fast as what people would expect but at least there was growth. Surprisingly clams made it as well and are looking good. All I used was 2 fans, strip full spectrum LED from C328, dose 2 Little Fishies two part mix and Brightwell's microbacter7 and liquid reef. But today, I have managed to upgrade to having a chiller and running par38s. So here are just some pictures to share :)

Great tank, Titus. Bring your dad over and he will push you for an upgrading to a 5 footer.

Nice stuff, but do collect your gems slowly. Don't get burnt out like many young reefers.

Cheers
