POSSIBLE WAVE TOO STRONG , TANK SHORT OF OXYGEN CAUSES FISH DIE?

Recommended Posts

HI BRO AND SIS, LIKE TO KNOW BELOW POSSIBILITIES:

1) WILL THE WAVE MAKER WAVE TOO STRONG AND CAUSES FISH DIE?

2) IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT MY TANK SHORT OF OXYGEN?

I HAVE BOUGHT A NURSING FISH, WHEN I PUT IT IN MY 2 FT TANK( THIS TANK HAVE A SMALL 450 LIT/H PUMP AND AIRSTONE), IT BEEN SWIMMING AROUND IN THE WATER LIVELY AND LOOK FOR OTHERS FISH, BUT WHEN I PUT IN MY MAIN TANK, IT BEHAVE STRANGELY, KEEP DASHING TO WATER SURFACE, LIKE WANT TO JUMP OUT, ALSO HAS OBSERVE, MY CLOWN FISH KEEP GASPING FROM WATER SURFACE.

WHAT IS THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM?

Wavemaker suppose to create motion that could possibly generate more oxygen.

Chances are the sudden change in Water Parameters that shock the Fish.

Water Parameters in our 2FT and your DT may differ by too much.

Did you do Acclimatisation during transfer of your fish from 2FT to your DT ?

Can b a few factors..eg, water parameter difference (SG, PH, temp, etc..), environment (different terrain, different current flow, different light intensity, etc), tank mates (some fish see some fish will feel stress), the fish itself (paranoid, adapting slowly, personal character, etc)..cheers & happy reefing

Can I say,the fish react that way not so much becoz of short of oxygen and wave too strong?

If this 2 are the reasons, how about ur existing fishes in ur main tank..aren't they will b behaving the same? ;)

Sorry to say ya, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still new, thought most of my fish in the tank are under dwellers..like to hide in rocks or on sand bed. most of the time, they don't really swim around, and I do notice that they will just gather or hang around just below the wave maker..like the cardinal , they will station that area, only the clown fish will swim around... And gasp air from water surface..

No need sorry here bro..we r all learning everyday..some fishes dun like strong current flow, especially smaller fishes..but most of the case if current is too strong for them, they will stay at around the rocks and there's sure some area that current is weaker.. :)

GOT ADVICE FROM BRO JAMES, PUT A AIRSTONE IN LAST COMPARTMENT OF THE SUMP, TODAY TRY REINTRODUCE THE NURCING FISH, AFTER RELEASE, NO MORE DASHING AROUND THE WAYER SURFACE,SWIM HAPPILY NOW, SAMES AS MY CLOWN, NO MORE GASPING AIR.

If you dont want to use airstones, then either switch on your refugium 24hrs or run a higher airflow skimmer or run your additional overflow pipe on rainbar to tinkle down for oxygen exchange

Cheers,

James
