SRC Member Domino Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 Hi , Planning to buy this HOT skimmer for my 4x1.5x1.5 FOWLR. I have no sump , so I must have a HOT skimmer. The PRIZM DELUXE got my attention because it has a SURFACE Skimmer function. My current cheap Jebo filter doe not have that function and as I don't have an overflow, I keep having an oil film formation on the water surface. Anybody using this model or has heard comments on it? Thanks for your help guys!
SRC Member arcanehacker Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 You sure you want the deluxe version? .. its cost almost $300 or in some stores cost $300+.. the normal version cost $190+.. for the difference in $100+, you only get a simple surface skimmer attachment and an empty media basket.. I would recommend this skimmer but not worth the $$ for the deluxe. BTW guess how much an external standalone surface skimmer cost?.. $10+ Quote Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth? SRC Member arcanehacker Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 Oh yah.. one more thing.. for a tank that big, you would probably need a Prizm Pro which is meant for 3 feet above. It cost $300+ if I remember correctly. And the Prizm Pro Deluxe would cost bout $500. Quote Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? SRC Member Domino Posted February 24, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 Thanks for the replies!! I've seen the deluxe version at SGD198 on-line. Qite sure it's the deluxe version. What type of surface skimmer do you recommend at 10+? how does it look? what are the principles?
SRC Member riot Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 I have never used the PRizm pro, just the original basic set, and I have to say I am not impressed with the unit. The foam is watery, and the skimmate is a poor green tea at best. I would use the prizm for small tanks (2 ft) . IMO the AquaC Remora or Remora Pro might be better. USe a surface skimmer extension (available from most LFS) and hook it to your pump. That might solve your problems. Cheers
SRC Member dradttg Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 I have been using the non-pro version for more than 3 months and I have never achieved any kopi-o effect after multiple twitching. Go get a Weipro, it much cheaper.
SRC Member bubble_gum Posted February 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 24, 2004 if the surface skimmer attracts u, get the via aqua multi skimmer. has a surface skimmer and a uv attachment for deluxe version. only 100 ard der. some ppl got it for 85. after 2 weeks of 'twitching' can get kopi-o effect. but a little noisey

Not to mention the guy do not have a sump and needs to hang a skimmer onto his main tank. A huge pump in the tank would be an eyesore.. I do have to admit, the Prizm is one sleek looking skimmer. And yeah, at double the price, I will think about it too. Just goes to show how this hobby has sucked me in- $400 for a piece of plastic. Hi Bro, IMO the best HOT Skimmer money can buy is the Aqua C Remora Pro - Search the web and you will see the comments given! In Singapore you can get it from Edmund (EAN). I am currently using Seaclone but saving for the Aqua C Remora Pro (So Edmund if you see this, please remember to give me discount OK ) Beside the Aqua C, there is the Aqua Media Flotor & finally the most value for money one - Weipro. Hope this help. Cheers, Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N. Gouldian
Hi Sunnymau, If you have already bought the Prizm don't worry too much, it is still a decent skimmer (Trust me). Think about the days of our forefathers and you will know, in fact, my uncle is still using air driven Skimmer. Marine equipment is like all other daily stuff - there is always a better one out there. If I were you, I will still use my prizm but save up for a better one next time.
