Can you pick up a tuxedo urchin?

I understand that many sea urchins are venomous but tuxedos aren't.

Nevertheless can the spines poke people when handled?

I kena poke a few times before. Only abit pain nothing else happened

Normal gentle handling should be fine...Just have to resist the urge to press on it

It's not fatal... Just painful b'coz the splinter gets embedded... U have to hit the splinters till its all broken up otherwise it'll be painful for a long time...

dont think they are poisonous... I use to handle urchin with my bare hand also.. just pick them up gently, so far I have no issue with them... but most die within a few month... maybe it due to me touching them with bare hand??

Might be lack of algae, improper acclimatisation etc. doubt it would be due to contact

There is a kind of sea urchin, all black. With thin spines, those are venomous. The spines can "sense" your presence when you approach and will point towards you.

Should always move an urchin with a container to play safe even if it's not venomous still use container so that you will less likely get poke by the spikes
