Reefer80
I have a Hailea HS66A Chiller and was thinking to get a external thermostat and probe to modify it. Heard from some reefers and have been doing some research on the internet, and most are suggesting that using an external thermostat and probe is more accurate and the running time will be shorter. Currently my chiller will start running for 90mins and rest for about 3hrs...it this normal? Where can I get the external thermostat and probe and where can i get help to modify it? Any bros here can provide information and advice? Appreciate in advance...Thanks!
xiggie
Run 90mins and rest 3hrs is about right . Think you don't need an external probe ... It is when the chiller keeps running once every 1/2 hour then u need an external probe .. Quote Stairway to Heaven
xiggie
If you insist on an external probe then .. U could just open up the chiller , find the existing probe (it would be in the water compartment ) take it out . Then replace the cap covering the existing hole making sure it doesn't leak. Now u have a external probe. Next u will need to extend the wire so that it will reach your tank. Any normal electrical wire will do.(choose those that are about the same size). Cut the existing wire (make sure u cut far bought that the join will not be in the water with the probe) then join the new longer wire to the probe and the chiller. It's as easy as that.. You can go here for reference .. http://aquatic-art.blogspot.sg/2008/10/chiller-turn-on-every-5-minutes.html?m=1 This link is for a freshwater tank. If you are going to buy a probe get those plastic covered ones for saltwater. Hope this helps .. Quote Stairway to Heaven
