SRC Member Sea hare Posted June 4, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted June 4, 2014 Well it's happens again. After close to two months all my shrimps have disappeared without a trace. There were 10 of them. Cleaner, camel, peppermint, fire and monkey... Now the issue is the fish have started disappearing. One flasher wrasse gone, one small blue yellow damsel gone, one clown gone, one flame gone. One sand sifting goby gone, two dragnets gone... All of them gone without a trace and that too in under a week. Only luck I had was with the flasher wrasse.. Luckily spotted him and he is half dead wedged between the rocks.. Touched him and he moved a bit. Obviously been stung badly but by what.. He is dead / dying and frankly have no clue why.. The place he was wedged between the rocks is the hippo tangs home.. She's fine absolutely. Now the point is predator but what predator- bristle worms, mantis shrimp doubt as the flasher has not a single scratch on him. He is perfect.. So it is obviously the stinging sorts.. Now if it is sting sorts what could it be that devours things without a trace?? Have a fully loaded tank- corals, anemone et fish et other inverts. How do I solve this issue. Have tried bottle traps to no avail Pppllllss help.

SRC Member Sea hare Posted June 5, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted June 5, 2014 My tank is some 600 plus liters. Life's rock includes a school of damsels, yellow tang, hippo tang, helfrisch, three anthias, two mandarins. Inverts include sea anemone, sea cucumber. Have also abelones, and snails. Just figured that the fish which have all disappeared at the new set I introduced two weeks ago..am coming to the conclusion. On infection??? SRC Member Sea hare Posted June 7, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted June 7, 2014 The tank and set up is old. Some 1 year plus. Introduced the new set as I had capacity. Anyways looks ok now.
blusafe
One year old tank? You are correct, may be a large bobbit worm or mantis shrimp. They can be extremely elusive so good luck!!!
SRC Member Sea hare Posted June 8, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted June 8, 2014 Only the old batch has survived. Entire new batch gone. Possible infection :-(
