SRC Member Bunster Posted May 21, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted May 21, 2014 Hi everyone, This will be my first foray into the world of reefing. I've been doing my research for the past few months and all the tanks here have been very inspiring. So I decided to decommission my planted tank 3 weeks ago and got myself the following: Tank: Ocean Free 96l AIO which comes with a 1200l/hr return pump, air driven skimmer and a strip of led lights Added 5 kg of live rock and caribsea Bimini pink livesand NSW to start Chiller: Hailea hs-28 Wavemaker: jebao wp-10 I've been dosing beneficial bacteria and throwing in some frozen brineshrimp to cycle. 2nd week added some snails and a banded serpent star Filtration: 1st compartment : filter wool 2nd : polyp lab biosphere in bag 3rd : Got a Skimz SH1 skimmer. Had to take out centre divider to fit it in 4th: carbon and rowaphos in bags 5th: return pump Currently week 3 Tank parameters- Temp 26 Ph 8.2 Kh 11.2 Salinity 1.024 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5 Saw a pair of royal grammas and I couldn't resist Settled in well and feeding on frozen mysis. Recently also changed the stock lights to a maxspect razor 120w 16k So nice and blue now. Thought I'd just share this and I'll be most happy to hear any advice... SRC Member Bunster Posted May 23, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 23, 2014 interesting tank and great choice of equipment! looking good thanks bro! I will be camping here too! Want to check w you on the effect of wp10 in a 2ft tank, what is the flowrate like in the tank? Suitable for lps or sps? You can get quite a nice standing wave with it, on the W1 wave mode... without any sandstorm. But my wife says the effect makes her seasick. So now I've got it on the random 'else 'mode. Its a bit strong if i point it upwards... but ok now that its directed slightly downwards to the rockwork. My single acan likes it... will update more when I stock up on corals. black tank
What the temperature of the water? U may consider to buy a small fan to keep the temperature down for keeping coral but beware of high evaporate rate.

SRC Member Bunster Posted May 30, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 30, 2014 Horrors... just found this... is this Aiptasia? Front view Side if it is... what do you normally do to get rid of it?
tofubox
Yup thats an aiptasia. Better get rid of it before more starts poping out. Theres natural predatorial ways and chemical ways. For predators, can try filefish, copperband butterfly (not advisable in ur tank size) and peppermint shrimps. All the above are hit or miss. For chemicals, theres a few on the market like joe's juice, red sea aiptasia x....or more home diy like lemon juice, hot water etc etc. Google and u will get a whole list with pros n cons. Good luck.
