PS II - How many version are there?

Hi,

I was in SimLim last Sat to check out the price of PSII.

Naturally, I will go around several shops to check out the price for a modified PSII. Was surprise to find that 3 shops price is $280-290. And 1 shop price is $380. All comes with the console and 1 original controller.

The shop that sell $380 told me that the rest is selling a NTSC model with a white packaging whereas their id original a blue box with model number 5XXX (cannot remember).

So need advise from you how many version are there, and which is the latest, price range, and which is better. Is <$300 the correct price to pay for with just the console and 1 original controller?

Actually buying a game console now is to check what modchip

they use, rather than which model the game console is ...

BTW after modding, u r suppose to be able to play all games,

be it orignal or "friendly".

Juz to add, find the cheapest set with the mod you want,

taking into consideration the free-stuff.

Standard set include 1 controller ONLY. (sony wan cost abt $45)

Most shop will throw in the 1x8M memory card (abt $50)

(make sure its original sony)

If u go for NTSC set (ie US set), u will have to purchase a

transformer (abt $50) for step down.

A pal set will not need a transformer.

Guess your first point is valid. The modchip used. But how do u tell it without opening the console. Will read out more from the website.

For 2nd pt, those guys are just BS. I don't look like a foreigner to them, what is the point of selling NTSC set to me right. Those guys there cannot be trusted. For example, I also asked cordless mic, Premire brand, 4 different ppl told me different country, from local, taiwan, china and one even say US. Waolao..

even recommended shops to buy from rather than buy from any shop and not sure what you had bought, matter of fact, most of the shop assistant also not sure what modchip they're selling

Another point to note on all mod-ed set, be it X-box, PS2 etc.

Once the set is mod, the guarantee is by the shop, not the

authorised dealer anymore.

Found some info about PSII in http://www.mod-chip.com/ about the DMS3 chip, it mentioned DVD region free, divx, mp3 playback, but I was told that the website just exagerating only as it doesn't have the decoder for divX and mp3 playback. It needs additional memory to execute application inorder to play divx and mp3. IS that true?
