Hey guys , this is my first large sized aquarium haha ! It came in on Monday , 05/12/14

IMG-20140512-WA0005_zps65396f5d.jpg

When it first came in...

IMG-20140512-WA0003_zps92cf7a12.jpg

There were some water stains and algae spots so i decided to clean it with vinegar and washing it a few times . Sadly though , as this is a 2nd hand tank

the glass had numerous scratches but ... mehhh

IMG-20140512-WA0051_zps4adbb6dc.jpg

The tankset also comes with life sand and live rock (I think their dead by now)

So after many hours of washing ...

IMG-20140512-WA0023_zps1f368905.jpg

such a mess...

But it was worthwhile...

These are not permanent lights though .... Im planning to get this one

IMG-20140512-WA0063_zps95ebcfd1.jpg

As for equipments , im using a sunsun return pump and a bubble magus curve 7 protein skimmer. Will be getting a dosing pump and a Hailea HC-500A soon ..

That aside , I did encounter some issues with the tank , other than the scratches , the overflow drainpipe's silicone was wearing off and was leaking . Unfortunately , I've already filled up the tank , ( didn't notice the leak ) with salt water ... Lucky thing is , the leak flows directly into my sump tank , but im afraid the silicone might one day give way and .. boom flooding in the house ...

DId anyone encounter this problem and manage to solve it ? If so please do teach me XD

Overflow drain pipe leak.... Stop the return pump... Drain the overflow compartment only , repair the overflow leak (best to remove the pipes and redo the silicone ) let dry for 24hrs , restart return pump ... No need to empty the tank content...

Alright , I fixed my drain pipe by removing the sump tank and silicone it many times . I tested for leaks and so far so good. Also my chiller and LED Light ( still finding ways to mount it though) came in .

Unboxing the Chiller , will be hooking it up some time on Sunday

I also redid the landscape and added a few rocks to complete it

This is the picture of it under the newly arrived LEDs

By the way only one LED arrived , the other one is coming in real soon , so you could imagine the brightness of it haha . Its dimmable and can be set on a timer , best of all , its alot alot alot cheaper than other LEDs

Current Equipments:

-Sunsun return pump

-Bubble magus curve 7

-FR-30 fluidized reactor

-120 watt dimmable LEDs with timer

-Hailea HC500A chiller

Also , i bought quite a few reefing items from freshnmarine :

2 Seachem Matrix

20140613_224145_zps616e67d0.jpg

Microbacter7 500ml

20140613_224153_zpsa4113950.jpg

Reef octopus biosphere litre

20140613_224202_zps231e7c9c.jpg

I heard rumours on-line that Seachem matrix is actually just pumice stones which are common volcanic rocks . I suppose that's true with so many people backing it but i also heard that its processed pumice stones that have all heavy metals removed . Anyone used this product before? Can give review?

I haven't add the salt and the Matrix yet. Will be doing so tomorrow . That's all for now folks!

Will be posting regular updates on the cycling process and give a review on the bacteria products. Anyways , I'm thinking of getting a 3 way dosing unit soon , will be camping in the Pasar Malam thread haha

Oh forgot to include :

Will also be getting my wp40 wave maker tomorrow. The salt i'll be using is Skimz Pur Reef Salt , mostly due to the price and the review it gets on-line. Also thinking of adding a wp25 wave maker just to create more turbulence within the tank for SPS and LPS

Bro nice tank!

I think your buttons are faulty. They do sell spare ones but you should check if you have warranty first. Try disconnect the light sensor first and try again. Good luck and happy reefing!

Hi guys just an update!

I think the cycling process is more or less done :)

Ammonia is at 0ppm

Nitrite is at 0ppm

I didn't check for nitrate since it was obvious that it was high

20140623_214449_zps1b5017df.jpg

So my tank went from this

20140613_224101_zps5bf2f196.jpg

To this

20140623_215102_zpscf0a61e5.jpg

Should I some water change ?

The skimmer was offline since the start of the tank , maybe now's the time to on it? Or do i wait till there's no more diatoms/cyano then i start the skimmer?

Also , when should i start adding the bio pellets to my tank?

Realise my calcium levels are extremely high , i think its probably because i used regular tap water treated with prime for my tank ( Heard tap water contains around 100ppm of calcium , no wonder)

I don't think this is the case. If tapwater adds calcium to your tank then you should find drinking tapwater very hard to digest.

Word of advice: dump your api test kits and get salifert. You'll get better readings.

Anyway I hope you're not filling your tank up with tapwater.

Otherwise you're going back to the same issues you're facing 4-5 months ago.

Hmmm ok . I did some water changes with (Diamond energy water) I don't currently have a Ro/DI unit :(

http://www.diamond.com.sg/productbenefit.html

Supposedly , its a water purifier for consumption purposes , not sure if this is ok for reef aquarium

I brought down my SG from 1.026 to 1.024

Im actually using the Salifert test kits , needs more than 1ml of reagent to change colour

My alkalinity is 8 ( salifert as well )
