Algae issues

Hi all, I have some algae issues.. My parameter are alright;

PH: 8.3

Nitrates: 0

Phosphate: less than 0.03 (from the test kit)

KH: 10.8

Calcium: 500

Top up water: RO/DI

But I could not grow coraline algae even I scrape off some n seed in the display tank.

Light was on for 10hours.

However green algae starts to grow n some lime green algae was growing on rocks. GSP corals was growing but no coraline algae.

Your phosphate might have been absorbed into your live rocks. Manually remove as much algaes as you can reached and Reduce your photoperiod to 7 hrs, increase nutrients export through weekly 20% water change from distilled water or ro/di salt mix, setup a refugium to grow algaes, use algae turf system, phosphate remover like rowaphos or ultraphos, upgrade your skimmer or mod it to be more efficient. After your nuisance algaes are gone, your Coralline algae will start growing. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

How old is your tank Mel? Did u use live or dead rocks when starting the tank. I ask because if u use dead rock, it's common to get that lime green algae over the rock, before Caroline start to take over. It's just the ugly phase of using dry dead rock to start tanks

I dont mean doing everything at one go. But if its low nutrients problem then its much easier to tackle, just buy more fish n feed more :)

I agree with the age of tank and type of rocks used.

If your tank is young it's kind of expected that coralline not set in and when I mean young I meant maybe a month or two and less.

Another thing about coralline is the kind of lights used. I noticed that it's not as easy to grow coralline with LEDs than it is with T5. Somehow there is something amiss (I do not know if it's the uv or red or orange led that causes coralline bloom). Having said that I find 6500k t5 tubes and coral plus by ATI giving coralline a good run.

Heres an example of my rocks. I used dry rocks for this tank, its been 2 to 3 months now. Rocks covered with lime green algae, but not a cause for concern. If you notice, there are already specks of caroline starting to grow. As long as your nitrate and phosphate test are showing the right readings, just "enjoy" the lime green for now, it will be gone shortly.

My tank I think shd b consider old? About 6 months. As for d rock.. I would say is dead rocks as it used to be love but I left it in the open for a week after some miscalculation she. Settle up the tank..

Its not a cause for concern like i mentioned, as long as ur nitrate and phosphate is within range. If u wanna accelerate caroline growth, than as bro Marcovan mentioned, its has to do with lightings.

I see your KH and CA is on the high side, but its still considered in range, and i understand your purpose in having elevated reading is to encourange caroline growth. Be sure not to let KH pass 11 though, and CA should be left at 500 or less. Dont push it up anymore, else everything is just going to precipitate out, and become useless / clog up your equipments. A good amount of MG in the system will also benefit caroline growth by the way.

My advice besides lighting is just to be patient. Dont go buy purple up or whatever commercial products that stimulates caroline, its just going to create imbalance in the system. Stabilty + lighting+ low no3+ low Po4 = Caroline algae.

no sweat, keep those parameters in check, in due time (1 -2 months time) the coralline algae will flourish.

my problem is to keep their growth in check cos they are growing all over my tank and equipments
