Dirt building up on bio balls

As we all know, bio balls are the homes of nitrifying bacteria.

However it seems not to serve it's purpose as dirt collects on them and I have to stir them up from time to time.

It is especially bad when they are placed directly below the overflow compartment where you place the filter wool.

Anyone encountered this problem?

I used to place bioballs. But too much dirt Over the years and caused my nitrate to rise. I remove and replace it with cr. but if u want to remove it, try to take them out in batches over the few days. If not there will be a spike in nitrate and all dirt will flow to your dt
