UV Glass shield

Does anyone here know where I can purchase glass with UV shield???

how bout using those sun shield stickers for cars...

i think they block uv rays....

well as a 250watt iwasaki MH is not UV protected, I have to go get a piece of UV shielded glass to block the amount of UV going into my tank.

It can be actually harmful to most things when high intensity light is not UV protected.

Almost all glass except quartz glass absorbs UV. They only vary in the amount of UV absorbed.

to ask , what thickness of the glass should I get?

as i heard that it will crack under the heat of the MH

There are special UV absorbing glass out there that absorb about 30% more UV than normal glass. Thickness depends on how much space you have in the hood to fit that glass. 5mm tempered glass should be fine.

Hi, just to add in that I'm using a ordinary 5mm tempered glass without UV coating for my 150DE Aqualine bulbs. Works out great!

Cedric, what is the distance that u keep b/w the bulb and the glass?

Between bulb and glass, about 2 cm. Between glass and water, less than 5 inches.

Thanks.. Want to do the same (ie. ~1" gap) but is worry that the glass will crack under high heat/temp. So seem like it is ok.

They won't crack because the MH heat up relatively slowly. Just make sure water doesn't splash onto the glass.
