Generally, got to introduce/make sure some fear factor to induce schooling. Else when feel safe they won't school.

Tangs are territorial but we see them school in open ocean (I just watched Maldives reef on YouTube and can literally see Adult PBT school together).

Schooling - must be the kiasi factor

Bully/Fight - must be the kiasu factor

Agreed..ocean r big n even fish like bump head parrotfish, barracuda, etc school together..

For our small ocean @ hm, I believe must get smaller fish then they will school together to guard against bigger fish..cheers

Very nice school of fire fishes !!!!!!!

But if tank is having Angels, does that mean that the Fire Fish school will get freaked out & die ?

i'm not sure if angels will freak them out or not as i do not have.

You should perhaps consider some of the dartfishes in the genus Ptereleotris, as most form schools. Aside from Chromis, I've found Neopomacentrus species good in schools (and not at all aggressive). Another relatively peaceful damsel to consider is Lepidozygus tapeinosoma - though perhaps not an easy one to come by. (I've mostly seen it offered for sale as a Pseudanthias!)

Ive been looking for a school of the dwarf dartfish,Aioliops Megastigma. It would be perfect for my 2ft nano. Although many of those who keep them mentioned they are very sensitive and touchy.

I have not heard any long term success stories. Would be good to know...

Princess anthia I got 4pcs frm AC & they seem to be schooling even in my nano tank.

Hi Bro

I'm contemplating to have a school of anthias. I understand the care level for Princess anthias range from moderate to difficult. Are your anthias already feeding? If they are, what food do you feed them?

That's what happen to mine. i used to have 10+ fire fish a few and they do school together everytime. But, they are always freaked out by my big tangs and angels when they swim very fast or aggressively. Eventually, non of the fire fish survived.

Ah ...... That is sad.

Sigh ... I guess we have to make choices went it comes to community vs captivity.
