There is a knob on my deltec skimmer that when I turn clockwise, increases the amount of skimmate produced to the extent that it overflows. May I know what this knob is for as well as the optimal level I should set it to?

Thanks in advance! :)

That is for the Water Level In Your Skimmer.Chamber....All skimmers have them..Depends what you want to achieve..Dryskim? Or wetskim..Put the water level at The Neck Of the skimmer for dry skim..Any Higher than the neck for wetskim....But normally we all keep that water level at the neck alowing for super dry skim..So the skimmate is darker

cheers!..:)

The traditional thought is this.

1. Wet Skimming skims faster but the skimmate is less concentrated.

2. Dry Skimming is slower but the skimmate is more concentrated.

Wetskim Advantages

Less cleaning of your skimmer neck!/Body!

What ever water used can be toped up by Freshwater..Thus creating small frequient water changes

Actually its better To dry skim in terms of safety or overflowing your home..run in between Wetdry. Is Better as you get both worlds.Keep the water level at the neck!

cheers!

If I can't tune the knob to the lowest possible level without flooding and causing skimmate to spill out of the container, does this mean I have too much proteins? Sorry for the noob question!

If u cany tune, it means your sump water level might be too high for your skimmer. You can put something below the skimmer base to increase the height so you can tune the knob for the texture of skimmate you desire. For myself I prefer wet skimming for fast nutrients export.

U must also make sure that ur in sump skimmer is place within the recommend water level of the skimmer. If ur sump water level too high, most likely even if u adjust ur skimmer knob to the lowest level. The foam will still easily over flood ur cup. In that case u might need to elevate ur skimmer higher.
