Help needed for tank cycling!

Recommended Posts

Any kind bros and sis can help?

Been cycling my tank for the 3rd week - dosing Brightwell Aquatics Microbacter 7 daily for 14 days as per the instructions given but noticed that theres not much of a change in my water parameters.

I'm using Liverocks and Livesands + intro market prawn to kick start the tank cycling process (Started on 28th March 14).

On a side note, why is my PH level still stucked at 7.8? From my knowledge its still on a reasonable level but i remember its better to keep at a range of 8 - 8.4.

Anyway, I'm using API Master Test Kit and below are my tank water parameter readings. Thanks!

3rd April 2014

  • PH - 7.8
  • Ammonia - 0.25
  • Nitrite - 0
  • Nitrate - 10

13th April 2014

  • PH - 7.8
  • Ammonia - 0
  • Nitrite - 0
  • Nitrate - 10

Ur cycle shuld have finished already since nitrate is up. When i was cycling my pico tank my ph also around 7.8, maybe can do a few water changes with salt mix to correct it. Are you using NSW or salt mix?

Hi bro. I'm using h2o salt mix. Anyway, I know adding bacteria will speed up the cycling process. But now is it safe to say that I can do a 50% water change and start intro live stocks in?

My reef chemistry is rusty. Could the problem lie with your kh?

I am also revising on my reef chemistry. Kh buffers ph, which maybe the reason why you are having a hard time lifting the ph. That is the intricate part of reef chemistry, you raise one parameter, you risk causing problem with another one. Every part is inter-related. Much like our body chemistry. Just a quick update on my water parameters before 50% water change:

20th April 2014

  • PH - 8.2
  • Ammonia - 0
  • Nitrite - 0
  • Nitrate - 10

My PH has gone up to 8.2 lol. Finally completed my tank cycling process!!! Can't wait to add in live stocks!!! haha.

Thanks to all bros for their help.
