Any recommendation for cheap and good 802.11ac router?

ASUS RT-AC66U has a rather poor 2.4 GHz coverage, but if you are only using 5 GHz, it is ok. The newer model RT-AC68U improved on the 2.4 GHz range, but the Netgear 7000 has the best coverage.

All these routers are in the range of $300, I would think they are considered high range routers.

One cool feature I like about RT-AC68U is that the stock firmware can support dual WAN, though I have not tried this yet.

I use custom firmware ddwrt, even tried double the transmission power, but the range is still quite bad. I wonder if I had burn the router by setting the power too high.
