Tank Cycle

Hi Guy i just check out something? last fri i kick start my cycling process by putting 1 dead prawn in(before and after the step water was already cloudy, suspect bacteria bloom).

yesterday (prawn is gone) and today i check for ammonia 0.25(salfieit), nitrite 0 (Api) and nitrate 0 (Api). today the water already turn clear, so how do i know if my cycle is over? shd i add in more prawn to raise up ammonia?

I dun think the prawn can decompose or disintegrate so fast... You have LR? Can it be stuck somewhere? The nitrate spike also not so fast...

Yup i got about 50% LR. I broke the prawn into 3 part but its really gone .wat i can find is the intestine of the prawn only. Then the water juz turn clear overnight. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

But the live rock is added after the prawn is put in only. N the LR has been with me for the pass few month. Thats yhe funny part. Or being blended by wavermaker?

High chance yes..my anemone was blended by my wavemaker b4 too..the water will become very cloudy..

Talking about tank cycling, u need to cycle with ur LR..its to let the LR, bio balls, bactKing, ceramic balls, etc to house the beneficial bacteria..cheers

i did put the bacteria 7 but i dun hv bio ball or ceramic ball. Shd i on my bio pellet?

Dose bacteria is good..u need LR to house the bacteria..having LR will do without bio balls or ceramic rings..they r just addition surface for bacteria to house..when cycling, need not on bio pellet..dun waste..cheers

There shud be traces of NO3 when cycling is almost up ;)

Lol, if ur worried a hitch hiker is eating your prawns, u can put it in a net and suspend your prawn. Bro, u mentioned " N the LR has been with me for the pass few month". was it kept submerged? If it has, it probably cured and already has bacteria established, hence the faster cycle.

yup i bought it live and i been using it in my previous tank. Even when i change the tank i put them in saltwater with pump n drop fish food every now and then to keep them alive.

The 2 prawn tat i put in on fri was gone too. No ammonia (salifert) n nitrite(api) nitrate(api) cannot tell but seem to be between 0 and 5. My water turn abit cloudy again. Shd cycled already rite? Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Bro, im assuming that your rocks are already well established with bacteria. With no ammonia, nitrite and a small trace of nitrate, can safely conclude that the tank is cycled. Good time to get a couple fishes to test out the system. Fishless cycle is assumed to be complete, so won't harm your fish so negatively. Stock slowly and monitor. Shouldn't be a problem :thumbsup: Whats the plan for your tank?

It will be a mix reef. Planning to get 1 school(about 10-15pc) of firefish, 1 school of anthias or still thinking wat else. Then 4 single big size fish like tangs. U have any to recommend?

Personal favourite tangs will be 1 x hippo/blue Tang, 1 x Sohal Tang, 1 x Yellow Tang, 1 x Achilles Tang.

Other nice tangs to consider : Naso tang, Purple tang, Clown tang, Orange shoulder Tang, Powder brown/Blue tang (Personally not my fav, due to susceptibility of itch), Sailfin tang (good algae eater), Kole tang (good algae eater), plenty more =D
