Decom .....

Recommended Posts

In recent months, there are so many bros decom their tanks, both reef and FOWLR tanks. Those bros are experience refers, not new comer.

What is the real reasons for the decom?

1. Cost of fish, coral.

2. Fish / coral keep dieing.

3. Weekly water change.

4. High electric bill

5. Breakdown of equipments.

6. Tank crash for no reason.

7. Too busy, no time

Can we have a cost / time efficient tank?

4, 6 and 7.

It's safe to say everyone with marine hobby knows the costs and effort required :)

For me.

It is 2 and 6.

I try my best to maintain and use the best suitable equipments. The fishes still died and sometime the tank starts to crash, the fishes died for no reason. Disheartened by the loss of what to do and the loss of my favorable fishes.

That means effort does not equal outcome.

i am still holding on...

I believe all option is possible for a Decomm..for experienced Reefer, 7 is the most possible answer..can add 8. Change hobby..this is a possible answer too..cheers n happy reefing

I drop reefing 8 years ago due to financial reasons. Now I am back stronger and the tank also grew bigger and nicer.

Morale of the story, enjoy n learn from the process and not the end result. In life, priorities can change :)

I know most due to time..... but if the result is good, it motivates to hold on and the family will also support. Sometimes it is the CFO..... not approving the budget.

I think both the learning experience and the outcome and also the expense must fall within monthly budget are important.

Yes priorities changes is one of the mostly likely reason for decom.

Family commitment can be one reason too, time spent on hobby cannot be explained why less time spend with family.

Imagine going overseas & putting a proxy to take care of dear fishes & corals.
