Bro, can elaborate why vinegar is safer than biopellet?

biopellet is constant carbon dosing, vinegar can be stopped anytime. biopellet are usually used in a larger amount and i guess your tank will crash faster if skimmer breakdown. just my personal opinion

Does the biopellet refers to the normal biopellet we put into tanks? So it's not safe??

What u mean ?? Biopellets is the pellets we put into the fluidised reactor. Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk

Biopellets is safe to use. Just make sure u have a good skimmer n using the correct amount. They are just comparing between the pros n cons of biopellets vs carbon dosing.

Ohh ouhk. Can the phosban be used for biopellets as well?

Ya I'm assuming u guys are referring to that as well.

I was told by Madpetz Ken that biopellet only dissolve as and when carbon is needed. Ultimately, the rate of growth of bacteria is dependent on the food source (in this case nitrate). If the nitrate in the tank is low, bacteria can only multiply so much. So the consumption of carbon will reduce.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

i tot Biopellet itself is the carbon (food source)? So it is continously supplying food for bacteria to multiply.

From my understanding of biopellets, I agree with ken that the amount of bacteria is limited to the nitrates in the tank. It is also true that pellets are the fuel for bacteria. Thats why its important not to suddenly increase the amount of pellets are this will have a major impact on the overall balance of the system. Pellets are safe to use as long as its introduced right. Always good to monitor after, and from there stop adding biopellets once your nitrates are where it should be. For the remainder part, just top up once its degraded. Correct me if im wrong as well.

I agree. I believe once your nitrate is at the right level, mark the biopellet level in the reactor and only top up small amount occasionally just to maintain the same level of biopellet. Do not dump in cups of biopellet like what I did and my nitrate dropped out of sudden and shocked all my livestock.

Ah okay.. So a question. Example for my tank I didn't run biopellets when it first started cycling. And now I want to run. Must I do bit by bit or can I out in the measured amt example 100mls and start running it.

Sorry if I'm stealing a thread.

Hi the safe way to do this, is to add it slowly every week while testing weekly to notice the drop of nitrates. If your nitrates are not very high in the first place, u can put half recommended amount, and another half later, just split them. or 1/3 (over 3 weeks) or 1/4 (over 4 weeks) just depending on how high ur trates are.

Alternatively, if u are impatient, dump everything and just pray things don't die.

Key in this hobby is patience =D

Make sure your skimmer is up and running, and effective by the way.
