xiggie
Was looking to change my return pump to a lower wattage . Been using an Atman 4000lph pump at 85 watts .. So read up on return pump and sump flow.. And I have always thought that the higher return flow the better .. But after reading a few articles I found out that a return of 3 to 5 times the main tank is more than enough .. So for a 3-2-2 ,400 liters tank ... 2000lph pump is more than enough .. Any thought and comments on this guys and what kinda flow are I guys doing now .. Ps: not to confuse with flow rate in the main tank.. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-01/newbie/index.php http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1993436 Quote Stairway to Heaven

SRC Member youdontnowm Posted April 3, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted April 3, 2014 Go for jebao dc 6000l/hr. Low wattage , 140$ only. Im using it for my 400l tank too. Find the flow just nice. Pump also got max head. Say 6000l but reach tank is only maybe 4000l or so due to the elbows and stuffs. I should have gone 9000l , then can split to chiller also hahahaha Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk Quote | Display : 48x30x22 Skimmer : SK-201 skimz | Sump : 30x24x18 Wavemaker : 2x RW-15 , 1x RW-8 | Cooling : 1HP titanium drop in coil ATO : JBJ | Lighting : ATI Sunpower 8x54w + 48x cree xte royal blue Return : Jebao dc-6000 | Dosing : Jebao dosing pump [ CaCl2 + NaHCO3 ] Pump : | Reactor : FSZ Z160 zeolite reactor & phosban 150 | System : ZEOVIT decomm-ed : Ydkm SPS reef >><<
xiggie
Not much corals now .. Some shroom and a couple of Sps frag .. Wp25 in the tank already creating havoc!! Udonknowme I'm not thinking of going high flow now ... Was wondering say if a 2k return is more than enough then all the better coz low watts = less heat and consumption .. SRC Member tunicate Posted April 3, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted April 3, 2014 SPS generally needs high flow, but mushies prefer gentle flow. It's goin' to be challenging.

SRC Member youdontnowm Posted April 3, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted April 3, 2014 The dc6000 can adjust to the lowest flow setting , about 3000l i think. + very low watt Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk Quote | Display : 48x30x22 Skimmer : SK-201 skimz | Sump : 30x24x18 Wavemaker : 2x RW-15 , 1x RW-8 | Cooling : 1HP titanium drop in coil ATO : JBJ | Lighting : ATI Sunpower 8x54w + 48x cree xte royal blue Return : Jebao dc-6000 | Dosing : Jebao dosing pump [ CaCl2 + NaHCO3 ] Pump : | Reactor : FSZ Z160 zeolite reactor & phosban 150 | System : ZEOVIT decomm-ed : Ydkm SPS reef >><<
SRC Member hanafi_weeseng Posted April 3, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted April 3, 2014 A high flow return can always improvise the output to 2. This way can cut down the number of wavemakers but also depend on the rock scape, corals placement and dead spots. Just my 2 cents

SRC Member james72 Posted April 4, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted April 4, 2014 It all depend on your setup, how important your return pump is and what is the primary function of this return pump. You can save a penny now but lose a pound later. I am a high flow person cos my return goes through the chiller before it return to tank. Slower flow rate means slower nutrients export to me. Anyway the choice is yours.
