Fragging Xenia And Toadstool!

Hi Guys I Have a huge toadstool and crazy growing xenia..

my question is can i frag it in the tank?..i cant take out both..tooo big and connected to other part of the rocks..

Any complications? I Have a Mix reef..

doing a water change after that ok?

Pls advise need to trim soon..toadstool is touching my birdsnest sps

I think its ok for your toadstool to touch your birdnest, shouldn't have much issue. Mine is touching too.

For xenia, if u have a scrapel or small penknife, u can try scrape it & peel it off from the base where its attached to the rock slowly in order not to damage it. If u can't remove it without hurting it then guess u have to destroy it.

Better to do at nite when its polyps all closed up.

Can cut inside tank, I've tried before, but u need to off ur pumps & wm for awhile. I think its better to frag off ur birdnest than toadstool but it's up to u. Cos your toadstool big & nice.

il think about it..So xenia and toad no prob ah if cut inside the tank?? ..for precaution il change 30% Water after That..Just increase my 10% to 30%..

u can cut any soft coral easily with fragging tool (scissor) directly inside your tank include leather & xenia too but xenia is more difficult to stick it with glue gel on a plug or any rock the best way is put in a tupperware with low wave & wait it to stick itself just take 2~3 days ...

You're right to be scared and want to protect the stony corals. The toadstool looks like sarcophyton, known to be very toxic against other corals even without stress. I would do the water change and beef up carbon. No problems with in-tank frag.

its very hardy coral u can cut whatever size u wan & just stick with glue gel onto frag plug or any rock will do but some time u need to stick few time becos toadstoll changing skin very often so not easy to stick it too depends luck & timing but it will recover very fast nothing to worry about ...
