Acrylic for DIY MH Light Hood...

Was thinking whether can use a thick acrylic to make into a hood like those commercial hood... Will the thick acrylic be able to withstand the heat of the MH...

but there might be a possible depend on how u going to place the Mh and the design of the hood..

hmm if the reflector is big enough.. to cover the inside of the hood... and then on the top of the hood got fan to cool..

Acylic will melt, dont even try, waste the money.......its saver to use glass.

even thin glass will crack to the extreme heat!..try alum or ss sheets..

But I see that there are acrylic casing for some MH lighting.. What are those acrylic huh...

are you sure??could they be power coated or painted over?? if not they are ABS plastic..capable of withstanding heat...acrylic will probably melt. thick or thin alike.

why acrylic? the light would pass through it leh, unless it is dark coloured and very thick... IMO, It would look awful if the light passes thru it...

Plase don't waste your money trying to using arylic for MH lights. It will warp at the least. Worse case it will melt and burn everything. Wood or metal would be the best.
