Buy a 20kg or 25kg bucket of synthetic marine salt and when finished can keep the bucket to use for water change.

I'm thinking of 50% water change weekly. But gonna start making my own ro water. Or is it di.

Is it still necessary to do weekly water change than?

i Agree 50% is Overkill Haha

Depends on you..

18Gallon-10%Weekly Is Enough

Thats my Regimen..

If not weekly Then Add another 10%=20% Every 2weeks..

That Should Keep Your Critters And Tank Happy..

Cheers!

Depends on individual's standards and likings. For a start 10%wc weekly will be gd, once tank have stabilized, can reduce to maybe 5% weekly? Less maintenance less hassle too.

I think I screwed up the tank abit. Puffer turned blue and passed away today. My camelback shrimp also died. Not sure if it was the sudden water change or the chiller.

Chiller at 25 degrees.

I guess the puffer released toxics when they die. That might be the cause

Saw your sump has 3 compartments. Skimmer, refugium and return with live rocks. Which is the first compartment? Skimmer or live rock? Have you put the sand into a container?

Oh do they? But my prawn died first. Than puffer.

Shoots means I need to water change? I can't do any water change until another week or so. :(

Did a big change two days ago. Think that might have shocked the corals and fishes too

The first just skimmer and fr and biosphere. And soon biopellets.

Rocks in mainly third compartment

Second just sand, cheato and red bamboo algae.

Sand not transferred to a container yet. Trying to look for a container the correct size.

This is my guess & analysis, may not be 100% right but you can try.

The skimmer from first compartment is correct and it helps to skim the water off nutrients as well as oxygenate the water. But your oxygenate water need to push through the sand in order to reach the third compartment. During this process, the water loses the oxygen content and return back to main tank. I suspect your live stocks die because of the lack of oxygen. Put all the sand in a container and see if it improves.

Daiso should be a good place to find such containers. If u cant get a big correct size one, use two smaller size containers also can.

Oh ya. Btw. I think my sump is abit weird.

This is an old pic. But if u see the water flow from first to second compartment goes down up and down up again to third compartment.

Is it suppose to be like that??
