Pico SPS tank

Just started a new pico SPS tank in the office yesterday.

Transferred all my dying / bleached out SPS frags from my home tank after another white slime breakout.

This tank will serve as a recovery tank to the frags and the objectives are to get the frags back in good health again.

Equipment

Filter: HOB filter

Wavemaker: Boyu SP101

Light: Green Element Evo 6x3W (Modified 4 Blue / 2 White)

I plan to supplement Ca and KH with small amounts of kalkwasser daily.

As you can see from the pic, most of the SPS frags are bleached but not dead. Currently I've only switched on the 2 blue lights (supplemented with an overhead desk light + light from the tank next to it) so as not to shock them.

Couple more pics.

Jade green digitata.. thought it was dead but this morning saw some polyps... its totally white. Grew out from a single branch till this. Really sad to see it in this state.

Background shows a faded out green monti.

Unknown digitata came as a hitchhiker with 3 polyps and grew to cover the whole rock. Now its starting to die... hope it recovers.

4 reasons that I suspect that caused the SPS to be in such state:

1. Too much light

2. Too little nutrients in water

3. White slime outbreak (due to vinegar dosing & home plug in air freshener)

4. High kH of 13dKH (kH raised on its own without dosing - suspected caused by white slime)

Any SPS experts can provide any advices on how I can help to make the frags recover, other than turning down the lights?

i think if they are totally bleached without any remaining, seems not possible to recover. The polyp may not survive long enough before the zooxantellae come back and provide them the nutrient they need.

Brown acro has regained colour after blasting it under the lights in my other tank.

A comparison:

Before ("V" shaped piece at center right)

After (blasting under direct light)

Not much to update so far.

The bleached SPS still remain bleached, only improvements noted were that the polyps of the jade green digitata have turned darker.

I plan to increase feeding of dried baby plankton to a daily basis as I read that ammonia and nitrates don't affect bleached SPS. In fact, they require the nutrients to regain the zoox algae.

A small update. Jade green digitata has shown some signs of improvement.

Pic here shows the polyps of it getting darker day by day.

Was totally white previously.

More than 10 years into the hobby, I thought I'd seen it all.
Came back to office and saw THIS on my monti.

Pink monti has started to pink up.

post-13947-0-55454900-1395292817_thumb.j

Red dragon has started showing green tips. Was originally brown and doing badly.

Don't mind the lousy pics though.

Will return the frags back to the home tank when ready for my tang to 'clean up' the algae.
