Problem with Cyno in main tank & refugium

My tank and refugium got sudden bloom of cyno bacteria.

What can i do?

Should i try to get a dung? Will it help?

Lower bioload, feed less and change water.

I got the same problem as you..that's why I sold off my fishes that poop alot..and feed only once a day now (compared to 3-4 times last time..due to purple queen.. ). Now planning to change 1 coralife bucket of water every 3-4 days..just changed a bucket of stale water today..

To what i tried dung wont even touch cyno..

Trying finding out what cause the cyno boom..as they require some fuel source..

Adding of new sand would at time contribute to fuel the cyno..

This may helps.

Reduce feeding.

Getting a better skimmer.

More water change..

Trying using a product " Red Slime Remover" it work wonders..

DUNG????!!!!

I think if you put dung in your tank, you'll not only be having cyano but a major crash!

Not to mention the SMELL!!! Oh GOD!

Actually a black cuke will help. It doesn't eat the cyano but it stirs the sandbed preventing accumulation of cyano. Constant stirring of the sandbed and cyano can't grow there.

But you also need to control other parameters. Measure your phosphate levels. Increase flow using TUNZEs, get a good skimmer.

Once you control the main tank the cyano will gather and grow in the sump which is a good thing. At least can easily remove it in the sump when it overgrows. (another form of nutrient export)

actually dun recommend slime remover even though I've tried before as it's an antibiotic agent thus beneficial bacteria could have been removed too. find the root of the problem rather than quick fix. circulation, good skimmer, lighting, reduce feeding...

i on my lighting in the refugium 24/7... so all the cyano grows inside there.. yup... in the main tank.. would say lesser.. mayb not totalling none... but still it's very very little..
