Thanks for the advise ReefFish.

I'm facing a similar issue with my SPS bleaching and I think you just helped solved my problem (or rather, reaffirm my conclusion)

I've dumped all my carbon and Seachem Phosguard while doing a WC yesterday, and I'm dosing RedSea Reef Energy A & B excessively.

Hope to bring my NO3 and PO4 up soon.

I don't think i would ba .. Don't wanna waste the time i spent last time .. I'll let the tank settle down and remove that little crab ~

Dude I think its better to do a restart since your tank is only 1 month old.

Not sure if it is a good suggestion . You might want to restart your tank ? With proper procedure from curing rock to cycling your tank for at least a month ?

Restarting may save lot of your money in buying or paying for solution.

Long term wise it will save time and effort .

The choice is yours :)

Just restart then do water changes 2-3 times a week Siphon all the debris as u change water. Siphon off the algae when u change water so that the algae will not float around and trap in rocks. .etc. Dont overstock. .. Go back to the basic school of Reef keeping..

The tank did went to 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate before i added in some mushrooms and hermits.

Anyways i caught that crab but i found a smaller one ( its white in color so it might be just a molt ) on some other rock .

I do see some corraline coming back to live from bleaching on a piece of live rock .

Havent tested for ammonia , nitrite and nitrate but I assume that they are all in acceptable levels as my snails are still grazing on the rocks .

Those mushrooms still looks like .. nevermind ... However the other rock of mushroom looks fine . I think i would remove the unhealthy ones next week if they do not get better .

Planning to let my tank mature for around 2 months before i add in LPS corals .

K the ammonia spiked <0.25 ( the color was darker than 0ppm but lighter than 0.25ppm )

The nitrites are 0

The nitrates are 10

I think the ammonia spike could be due to table shrimp i placed inside a trap as well as a mini die off as i added a some live rocks into the system yesterday

If you did a proper cycle there should not be a spike in ammonia over a few LS dieoffs. At the end of a full cycle, your nitrates should increase. Your nitrates stayed at 0 which means that your cycle was incomplete. I know this sounds harsh dude, but these problems you're facing are the results of not cycling your tank.

I think your photo period from 11am to 9.30pm is quite long. You can try reducing to 8 or 7 hours to prevent algae growth.

Tank: 3.5ft x 2ft x 1.5ft, 12mm

Sump: 3ft

Skimmer: Bubble Magus Curve 7

Lightings: Maxspect 15000k

Return Pump: Eheim 1252

Wavemaker: Jebao WP25, Jebao RW-8

  • 2 months later...

I think ur prob is from using tap water and not di water.

Those looks like an infestation of hair algae, nitrates and phosphates probably sky high that's why ur mushrooms don't look good.

Ur using api test kits? Pretty sure the salifert ones would give u a sky high reading.

Restart properly, and use di water.
