How to get a porcupine short spined to start eating

I just introduced a short spined porcupine puffer into my tank.

Any tips on how to train it to eat?

Porcupine puffer eats crustaceans.

It will love krills, clams/mussel, crabs, prawns. It should not be difficult to feed.

I used to buy clams and mussels from ShengSiong to feed. Sometimes, when my mom cooked crabs, I would asked for some of the legs too feed.

Have had some experience with this fish - mine never liked clams or mussels for some reason. I feed them with dried shrimp (those they sell for feeding arowana) and frozen blocks of mysis or brine shrimp. Recently introduced a rare striped burrfish into my tank - just make sure you keep dangling food when it starts showing interest (swimming in front of the tank or looking at you) They catch on fast. Otherwise live brine shrimp triggers feeding which is what i use to get boxfish feeding.

Should i feed it everyday? he's begun eating!!! He ate 5 small shrimp yesterday and more than 10 today.

Other than that he likes to behave like a rock! Is that normal?

I know its hard to resist feeding it everyday but you gotta be careful of overfeeding...

I feed like 1 or 2 small dried shrimp every day (Maximum)... and once every 2 days I give him an entire frozen cube of mysis shrimp to crunch on.

my puffer keeps getting flapped around by my yellow tang and my pbt. he is so amiable and lets them get away with it...

If possible, train it to take pellets, mine has been taking pellets everyday Helps them file their teeth too

any tips on how to train it to take pellets? thot the shells of the prawn would help them file their teeth too

Sometimes if you let it hungry 1 day

the next day it should be willing to eat anything including pellet. Try feeding with bigger size pellet.

Yup. big pellets! What I did was when I was QTing the porcupine, I only fed pellets, no choice, it will learn to eat.. Now it loves it so much, feeds from hand and even eat e small pellets on my food timer!
