Dead Coral

hi folks~

i visited the hse of a fren of mine,saw he hv a dead brain coral in his tank(wat left is juz it's hardy bod) he told me after his fishes eat e brain until botak,he den took it out and clean it until wat was left is e hardy body and he put it back to e tank?

wat he did is correct?

Will e dead coral cultuivate any useful algae?

if you have a dead coral skeleton... just use bleach to disinfect it. It will turn white... then soak in FW to remove the bleach... dry it in the sun and you have a nice shelf decoration...

Or maybe you can return it back to the tank and use it to prop up other corals or use it as a frag base.

Chlorox will do fine, just use your nose (if it is reliable) to sniff the coral skeleton making sure there is no chlorine smell when you put it back into the tank. If you are unsure, then dip in water mixed with chlorine remover.

I doubt it will cultivate any useful green algae, but if conditions are good, it will be covered with coralline algae.
