SRC Member Quas111 Posted November 24, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted November 24, 2013 Permit is only for selling i think... but I do know that species like seahorses will be confiscated if imported, cos theyre banned. If not then can try lor haha. If you do, do post the experience here. Ill be interested to see how it goes
JoeyBabooey
I know that for livestock, you can only bring it in through a supplier/bigger LFS. There is no permit for personal importation. I have tried this before when i was into shrimp and freshwater fishes. For example, you can buy fishes from aquabid (online store) BUT you need a local distributor/supplier to help piggyback your order on behalf of you. Thats why people will just hand carry if they really want when they go on holiday. It is absolutely legal to if you keep within the limits of volume of water. However it is super risky as the livestock may or may not survive. Thats SG side... Most likely no problems at customs. The tricky bit is with the country you are getting it out from. The best we can do is depend on our LFS if you really want something brought in for you. Make good friends with them and get them to keep a look out for you. Hope this gives a better idea. AroDan
Yes you need an import licence to import any live stock. You don't need licence if you hand carry into Singapore. You can also check with the seller if they have their own SG importer contact that can assist you but of course with a fee. If they don't have, there are a few fish farm who do provide importing services with a fee.
SeahSengYong
I think we can check in our lugguage as long within the limits. I used to bring in shrimps from Taiwan with no issue. Packed with kordon breathing bags in a styofoam box.
SRC Member redsuns Posted December 6, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted December 6, 2013 If you have friends in the countries you want to get the fishes from, you could ask them to EMS to you. I did it for shrimps previously and it was alright. As long as it doesn't exceed the "hand carry" limit. Shipment was held by AVA once before bag burst and water was leaking out, but it was returned without issues. Although they will tell you not to let that happen again. JoeyBabooey
Wow bro! EMS livestock must have been very stressful! Evermore being held by AVA...
SRC Member redsuns Posted December 8, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted December 8, 2013 Yes bro, you are right! When that happens, the livestock suffer. The key is speed, they should reach you in 3 days top (assuming you are shipping from Asia) and the best is to get them to ship on Tuesdays if I remember correctly. As Monday they might be clearing the mails from the weekend and they might hold it at that premises for that day and that means 1 additional day in the bag for your livestock, Tuesday would be good as that gives you a little buffer tha in case you need to collect at AVA, you can do so before they go off for their weekends. SRC Member Quas111 Posted December 9, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted December 9, 2013 Wah!Anyone try and buy from LiveAquaria before? they don't ship to singapore. Even if you post it to an american address and then ship it to singapore, the fish or coral would not survive the time of the journey. Live aquaria is super expensive compared to singapore lfs btw, so no point(unless buying exotics)
