Sand dollars in reef tank?

Hi all. Want to find out if anyone kept sand dollars in their reef tank for extended period of time? Im looking at getting one to stir and clean my sandbed a bit. But search online and find that many people do not recommend that as theres lack of food in our sand bed for them. Additonally, they also eats beneficial organisms in the sand bed. What's ur experience witg them?

I had one in my old 5g,mine only lasted like a month before dying.

had one that grew from a 20cm coin into a small teacup size over 18 months... tank crashed and killed it...

Yap. Used to have one 2 year ago and it grow very fast till I release it into the sea.

Had 1 inside my tank too but only for about a mth don't see it much it will only appeal once in a while didn't do anything particular for it and still surviving

Had two for a couple of weeks but they have stopped moving. Not sure if they are dead. Have a feeling they are.

Just curious, what are the signs of a dying/dead sand dollars?

Spines fell off, turned white and had some green algae looking thing on it. Both my sand dollars died

ooopppssss. i think mine is dying/dead!!! can we just leave it in the tank? will it contributes to ammonia spikes etc?

Don't have much experience but I think leaving non living things in the tank is disastrous.

The thing will rot and eventually cause massive ammonia spikes.

Not sure if pests will feed on it as well

Have perhaps some 12 of them in my tank. Brilliant things. Sands clean.. Only ones popped it till now.

so i decided to take the risk and leave one dead sand dollar in the tank for a couple of days, no ammonia increase noted. but decided to take it off after the fourth day. dont wanna play with luck!
