try bras besah, de building next to bugis parco/intecontinental hotel.... up the escalator on 2nd story you see a new/old book store run by indians. they buy and sell second hand and first hand books...prices reasonable...

alternatively you can try the bookstore named LIDO on the ground floor behind the bus-stop facing the ALLSON HOTEL. they have books at very good prices too, no 2nd hand books though.
