Green grape micro algae

I guess the algae you have are caulerpa?

If so then most likely the reason they're gone is that they went to a sporulation stage or most commonly termed as "it-went-sexual".

Some say when this happens, all similar species algae in the tank ,regardless if they connected or not, will simultaneously release some stuff that will cloud the tank and some reported even kills fish and/or corals.

The algae itself will die and decay in this process.

This might explain their disapperance.

Did you experience some lost or missing fish or damaged corals whe you were away?
