New 30x30x40cm nano marine planted tank

After a 7 year hiatus from the previous tank, I've decided to setup a small nano marine tank in the offie to add some life to the office!

I've always been intrigued by ecosystems and sustainability. So the setup of this tank is to explore nano tanks which require less maintanence and cost,yet at the same time is beautiful and lively.

Setting out with a 30x30x40cm rainbow r300, I wanted to create an environment similar to coastal mangrove reef systems where there is a mix of greens and basic corals.

I made use of about 3kg of live rock, 3kg of sand, nsw, some aquarium driftwood,and some marine green algae to start with. Also using a 20w led lamp for brightness and low heat. I'll be adding some mangroves pods in the rear in time to come.

I have a hermit crab currently to sift through the sand and keep things moving while I decide on what fish to keep and what's the best tank community to have.

Nice and interesting tank. What type of driftwood are you using? Is it those got fresh water fish tank? Where do you get them?

Look like a interesting setup. Maybe u can add in more different types and colored marine plants, some different colored sponges & tunicates.

Oh ya.. it's one of those dried driftwood for fresh water planted tanks, not sure whether there will be adverse effects But we'll find out ! Got it in pasirris.

Yah.. will probably try to have some small clumps of red bamboo too.. definitely choose some light loving lps as well..

You may want to check your PH?

The tannin released by the driftwood will lower PH levels. Unless this is already 'seasoned' for long enough with all tannin leeched out.

I was using the tannin from driftwood to lower my PH when I used to keep shrimp tanks....

I think spider wood dun really leech tannin from experience. But might not last in saltwater...

Hi people, sorry for the delayed response.. I have been travelling, and in between travels I will do water changes and add to the tank...

Current inhabitants are:

False clown

Purple firefish

Yellow clown goby

Hermit crab

Turbo snail

Nassirius snail

3 sexy shrimps

and some hardy soft corals

Actually my original intention was to setup a mangrove tank, however the lighting above would affect my colleague who is sittinf beside, so I put that idea on hold...

So far I dont see much tanin leaking, this piece I got is quite a mature piece.. and I feed minimally to keep water conditions normal.

Am trying to see how I can increase the copepods population so that there can be more natural food for the fishes. Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks bro, but grape algae is round like bubbles this one is cup shape.

Hi patrick, its a type of grape algae, got it at pasirris farmway 2, it grows quite well under constant light.
