SPS bleaching

Recommended Posts

My acro and monti started to have signs of bleaching...I have checked the water parameter seems to be ok (NO4=0).

I have 2 X 120w LED just 15 inch above water and 2 X WP 40 blowing at different side. The depth of the tank is 16 inch. Been diligently dosing KH, CA & MG. But can't seems to keep them...

Could it be too much light or current?

Thanks!

Tested the parameter again.

KH 10, PO4=0, NO4=0, CA 350. Didnt test the mg....Is the KH on the hi side and caused SPS to bleach? How to lower it?

Another question: What's the best way to maintain these parameters above?

Thanks!

KH 10 is still ok. If u want to lower KH, water change to bring it down slowly. Most important dun let any parameters swing too much. SPS ( Stablity Promotes Success ). Quote from one reefer in reef central. Best way to maintain is using dosing pumps or if a lot of SPS, Calcium Reactor (CR).

I use 3 part dosing to set my start point and the CR to maintain. Once you are able to maintain the kh consumption rate, the ca would most likely good as well

Up coming project:

5' x 2.5' x 2.5' Mix Reef Tank

If u re fine with manual dosing daily, then u can continue. But if one day u starts to get 'turn off' by dosing by hands daily, then u can consider dosing pumps. I believe quite a number of reefers here started off dosing by hands too before they switch to dosing pumps.
