SRC Member alanseah Posted February 10, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 10, 2004 it's never too big for chiller... u can even use a 1.25hp chiller to cool your 2ft also can...and it will take very short time to cool your whole tank.. SRC Member ben Posted February 10, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 10, 2004 different of 1 degree is a lot to all living things. imagine the coolroom is 4C and outside air is 27C, when u go in and out, u will feel bad. if u go in and out, u will get sick. cuz our body cant coup the temp different in such a short while. same as fish and invertebrates. 2C is a big different if the temp changed within too short period. few times considered ok as humans too but they have to take this for many times a day and for long run. this will kill them. normal human temp is 37C and if u are 38C, ppl says SARS, LOL. remember? SRC Member Tanggy Posted February 11, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2004 aiyah.. we talking abt fishes here.. and they are cold blooded animals... not like us.. hot warm and passionate... but guess we are That's worst. our bodies are able to regulate temp by shivering or sweating. But cold blooded cannot. their enviroment deters their body temp. They are very sensitive to temp change and if too big change like2 or more deg, can stress them too much. Then why bother to geth a chiller in the first place if we cant maintain a stable temp??
SRC Member ben Posted February 11, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2004 we always aclimatise the fish/invertebrates when intro to the new tank. the very first is to make the temperature the same. If different by 1C means alot. U may think 1C is little but if u surveyed properly, 1C can make u sweat/feel comfort.
SRC Member CalciumReef Posted February 11, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2004 how long do you think will it take for the temp of water to increase by 1 deg??
SRC Member ben Posted February 12, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted February 12, 2004 agree on the rapid cooling. Your tank is having high water volume but a newbie have 2ft (50litres or less). What if one of us advised him to get 2hp chiller? then this will make rapid temperature changes. So conclusion, we must not say the biggest chiller is the better. This may killed of his LS and crushed his mood on marines. btw wasting his money too.
