Chiller for 5ft

Currently using strong fans for my 5 ft tank temp ard 28+ -29. Not bad so far but thought of getting a chiller to achive 27-28.

Any bros using chillers for their 5x2x2 tank can share their experience? Am considering between hailea 1hp or 1/2hp or Artica 1/4hp chiller fro my tank (due to budget considering these only).

Also if i were to use aquabee: Would the below be a sufficient feeder pump?

• power consumption 230 V/18 W
• pump output: 2000 l/h
• max. pump head: 1.6 m

Hey bro

A 1/2 or 1/3 would be the safest option. The 1/4th will struggle cooling down your tank. It should be fine if you combine it with the fans. I have an Arctica 1/5th and it has a hard time keeping my 4ft 125G cool during the day time. (See the attached graph) The people who seem happiest with their setups are using drop in coils. In my experience the Haileas are too loud.

The Arctica 1/4 requires between 1820 - 5000 lph of flow. Considering that pump values are frequently inflated, I doubt that the Aquabee would be sufficient.

I've also thought about supplementing my chiller with some fans. Can you describe what fans you are using and how they are set up?

Ok noted on the Artica 1/4hp, will see if i can get a 1/3. If can't find a 2nd hand, will try hailea (1HP or 1/2HP - hope it is not too loud).

For the pump, will look for a 3000lph then.

For the fans, am using those 4.5inch x 4.5inch stronger metal type of computer fans (18-20+ watts each) . Currently have 4 of them. 2 are on for 12 hours day and the other 2 night controlled by timer.

may be a better investment in the long run to have a compressor with drop in coil, try to get a second hand compressor to match your budget.

For hailea chiller, get the hs series not the hc series.

Saw a post in aquaticquotient, stating that the hailea hs series is quieter than his artica since he own both brand. XD

for a 5ft tank, i would suggest you consider a drop in coil chiller as well since it chill faster and save electricity.

Yes after some research am looking towards a compressor as it cuts the electricity bills almost by half! the only con is it takes up more space but that's the price we got to pay..
