help with copepods

Hi all,

I've got a refugium that has nice fat mature copepods. But I've only got a few in my main tank.

They r hiding in my glass magnetic cleaner.

What's the best way of transferring my pods fr the refugium to my main tank?

your return pump will do the job well, you may have more pods in your DT than you can imagine, some can be very small, most are hiding in rocks in the day time.

do you have a dragonet that requires pods for feeding? if so, monitor its health and body size for a while. if it is fat and healthy, chances are it has more than enough pods for consumption.

My macro algae keeps disappearing. I've got a few hermit crabs in there. Could they be eating it? Bought 2 macro algae a lot of leaves, one disappeared in a few days the other is disappearing!

yes, the pods are poor swimmers, basically they go with the 'flow', thus the water from your ref will contain pods that gets transferred into DT by your return pump.

Jenaellyn: If you have livestock in DT, they are eating the pods. You mentioned crabs.

Downdraft no-pump, upstream, overflow refugium tank is best. The pump will shred macro-plankton like pods. But still a good option! That's my plan to boost plankton production.

pump will not shred the pods, look at the size of your propeller and the size of your pods.
