New 4 feet shallow

Hi all,

After reefing for 9 month with a 1.5 cube tank, I finally decided to start a 4 feet X 70 cm x 16 inch shallow reef with Aluminum frame. Just commissioned a tank maker to do up one and should be ready in 3 weeks time. Thinking of reused most of my existing equipment but realised some may not be sufficient to run a 4 footer.

Current equipment in my system:

-Skimmer-Bubble Magus 1.5

-Diablo DC pump 3000

-HS 66 chiller

-Pharos LED 90 Watts

-WP 25

Equipment bought so far for the new tank:

-Reef Octopus 3000 SSS Internal

-Light (not decided)

-Chiller (current system sufficient?)

-Return pump--thinking of Diablo DC 10,500 or Waveline 10,000..

-Add 1 more WP 40

-Add 1 FR reactor

-Dosing pump from current system

Any suggestion for a LED light and the Chiller be sufficient? I plan to keep SPS and LPS...

Was toying the idea of AI Hydra cos the costs are lower compare to Vega & Radion.

Why not for led try razor, bro evolution using and keep sps too and price wise quite low. Another is to diy your LED and import direct from china. For chiller should be enough since your height is lower also. 66A should be 1/4 horse also depend on the temperature you want to set if 26-27 no issue

Thanks Kakani. Was considering Razor but not sure is sufficient for SPS. I might check with bro Evolution. What you guys think of Hydra? Heard is cheaper than Vega and review not bad..But need to get 2 for the spread..

Was thinking of that but heard better review of other LEDs. If run out of budget, may consider getting one to top up.

I second this too, if budget is an issue you can hook up another Pharos and save on the controller cost.

Else there are many options out there which you can choose from.

my current 4ft shallow using a 6000l pump. even so i am only using it at slightly less than half power...

I thought the higher the flow rate, the better for SPS? So I can save some wave maker in the tank. Seems like 10,000 will be overkill for the 4 footer.

Im temporary using 3000l/hr with wp40 for my 4x2ft shallow. I find it okay actually , wavemaker setted it to the lowest else will splash out.

Im using 2 pharos for my 4x2ft width.

Sounds too much if use 6'000l/hr. Think Will use my existing dc pump to evaluate first. Thks for advice!

btw notice there is space between the wall n the tank how come dont want increase size cover everything?

Is actually a bad idea to keep the tank in the balcony, so I get the contractor to do a shade to block the sunlight...hope algae is under control..
