Need Help: Chiller Size for 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank size

Recommended Posts

Hi

I need some advise from any expert out there for the sizing of chiller for 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank size.

I'm looking at Teco TR15 & its spec is 800Litres max.

My tank volume is about 560 Litres including the sump

1) Is this good enough for my tank size or I need to get the TR20???

2) Is Teco Chiller better or JBJ Arctical Chiller better??

Some info on my aquarium.

I'm currently on FOWLR. Future my inclde corals in it.

The reason I wish to invest in chiller is because my fish cannot last long in my tank. The most is

4 to 5 mths. Initially I tot is because of high nitrate, about 20ppm. thats why I invest in nitrate reactor

to bring down the nitrate to the current <5ppm.

But I still face the same problem of fish dying after few mths.

The rest of my parameters are ok, except the temperature.

Current tank temp is 31 to 32 degree C.

Initially I never tot temp is the problem because many LFS told me chiller is only needed for corals.

If only fish, no need chiller. But After some indebt research, temperature also play a part for FOWLR aquarium.

Your nitrate is ok for a fowlr set up although lower is better but it shouldnt be causing the death of your fishes. What fishes are u keeping? Some fishes dont do well with temp over 30 degrees. Another factor could be the big swing of temp which cause stress in the fishes.

I'm keeping mostly tangs, Angels & Clowns fish.

I suspect temp. is the main cause of the fish death, thats why I wish to invest

in a chiller to bring down the temp.

But I still cannot decide which brand to buy, Teco or Arctica.

I'm still waiting for more feedback on this 2 brand.

So far Arctica is not bad. My fren ever use 1/10 to chill his 4 2 2 tank without issue. Of cos if possible, get a 1/4. Otherwise u can consider compressor with drop in coil. Chilling speed is super fast
