DIY Deltec Based Skimmer

There are a number of places. But mostly industrail estate. Hai Cheong plastic sell clear PVC tubes.

But be prepare. they cost approx $100 per metre. More for 8inch tubes.

Hi all bros. Have just did a wet run on the skimmer. It is now sitting in my sump. Almost couldnt put it in. I am amazed by the amount of bubbles created. Very fine bubbles I would say. will be posting pics in a moment.

Bottom. Notice large bubble form on the walls. Wonder if this is due to the rough surface of the used acrylic.

This is the second impeller for the dophin powerhead. Second attempt so look better. ke ke

Fullview. the top half all white with bubbles. The riser has not been completed yet. just need to glue the bottom piece in.

Lots of room for improvement but looking good.Can try on a normal grey pvc pipe actually.Those big bubbles are a setback.But still a good effort.

Those big bubbles just stick to the wall. They are not generated by the pump. the bubbles from the pump are very fine. but these bubbles are created at the beginning when water is filling up the chamber and refuse to move. sianz.... hope it dont affect the performance!!

By the way how do you intend to seal the joint between your tower and collection cup?

Also, how powerful is that modded pump of yours?

That part is free. not seal.Using teflon tape. plus it is a tight fit. cos water level is to stop there. so wont overflow.

This is the kinda foam I am looking for thick, brown dry foam. Need to play around somemore to get it better.

But got one problem with my workmanship. the bottom of the collection cup is sipping water. water from the skimmer is getting into the collection cup. the kopi on the bottom is mixed with clean seawater. got patches dark and patches clear one. if not should have a lot mor kopi to show. have to take it out later and do the cup again. This is what you get when you rush things

Hm... how is this possible? You mean there's a gap between the joints issit?

Oh and the dolphin pump what rating ah?

yalor. so water sipping into the collection cup due to the presure upwards. well have to glue again. think I will try a different collection cup design.

the dophin got no rating. it from an old OHF. not sated but its the model P708. Estimate around 1500-1600lt/hr

Decided to make the riser/collection based on another deltec skimmer.

Will see if this riser work well. if it dose, might stick to a square design and make a bigger and taller one.. ke ke

1 atman 105 3000lt/hr pump

Pipe : input 1/2inch PVC

output 3/4inch PVC

Water level: 20inch. Adjustable via ball valve (23inch max)
