Hey fellas!

Im planning on a pico tank in my bedroom probably a 3 - 5 Gallon set up with very low bioload (probably just a yasha goby + pistol shrimp pair). and i want to make do with just one small hang on filter. Preferably to be dead silent or almost at least. Since its in my bedroom.. anyone have any recommendation for these filter? or what do you guys use if you have a tank in ur bed room?

Yes but if u want the same slim series but pump built outside (neater) there are other brands out there OEM makers. I heard Gex built the pump inside only because they want the German market. The other brands like ocean free have same one from same China maker but had the pump installed inside for Asia market. Makes it looks better and reduce tanks temperature

Thanks for your explanation!

Anyway i was wondering how about the dymax IQ3/5.. Are they noisy?

I used both before and they are dead silent but u make ensure you have sufficient water in the pump compartment.... else pump will create a lot of noise. There isnt any fail safe, so if u forgot about it totally, the pump may burn

Hang on filter not much issue, if need to reduce water temperature, running fan is most noisy unless u off the fan during sleeping and on air con. I can hear my fan running in the kitchen from my master bedroom toilet.

I was using Dymax fan in the past and it was NOISY. Then I added a variable resistor to adjust the power of the fan down but still effective. Noise went down to almost none.

My noisy fan is Dymax also currently I change to my older one that I got from pet mart. So the variable resistor is potentiometer and get it from sim lim tower?

Yes. Alternatively u can get those power adapter which can switch voltage. Just switch to lower wattage and it will run slower and thus lower noise. Just get a low amp adapter will do

I'm off track but why do you want a pico tank in your bedroom? I hope I'm not a wet blanket here but if you believe in feng shui, putting a tank in the bedroom is not desirable.

Aquarium 3 - 250 liters with sump and refugium

Jebao DC 6000 pump with speed controller

Skimz skimmer

AI Hydra 52 HD

Hailea HS-66A (1/4 hp) chiller

Maxspect Gyre

TLF Phosban reactors with Phosban

Tunze nano osmolator

Marine Magic Triplet Dosing

Aquarium 1 - 27 litres

Atman HF-0600 HOB filter

Maxspect Razor Nano 60W (10,000 K)

AOL 60 litres chiller

Tunze Nano Osmolator

I have a nice spot on my table that can fit a pico tank nicely. Don't worry bro I don't believe in feng shui :)
