SRC Member nicreef Posted July 29, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted July 29, 2013 Ever since i got my auto top up unit from gemsurf, i realize that my it takes just a day to finish the water in the storage holder. ie:4l of water evaporation per day, tank is a 4 x 2 x 1 with a 3 feet sump, no cabinet. wonder if the evaporation is normal or a bit on the high side? dnsfpl
temp? any uncovered splashing area? no cabinet plus shallow tank, tends to have higher evaporation
SRC Member nicreef Posted July 29, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted July 29, 2013 temp hovering around 26-27.5 nope no splashing out of tank after i lowered the wp40 power.... hmm ok looks like nothing to worry about
kraken
the weather nowadays is very hot, thus do expect evaporation rate to be higher
SRC Member Evolutionz Posted July 29, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted July 29, 2013 My tank needs daily top up of 1.5l..I think cause our tank surface area very big. I do have lots of surface water agitation. Quote EvolutionZ's Floating Reef: (Decommed) EvolutionZ's 4ft shallow Mixed Reef Build :

Gouldian
My evaporation rate is about 2.8-2.9l daily, this is because I have 3 wavemakers pointing towards the surface thus super high evaporation rate. If the wavemakers are not pointed to the surface, my evaporation rate can cut by 1l daily. Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N. spgohjc
I might be wrong, but getting O2 to dissolve in saltwater is a lot harder than freshwater. If not enough agitation, LS might suffocate.
evomclaren
Yes evaporation rate is quite high for the past 1 week.
