Not easy to pair flame angel even you get a male & female.. anyway, flame angel born hermaphroditic when juv.. they change sex when growth. Try small specimen you got high chance. as long as no aggression.

Below some learning for sharing.. In general observation. Male exhibited more black stripes/bars on body & dorsal than female.. Also, male size bigger..

1pm at TFC very nice small to mid size royal gamma & 1x french angel (size of their tiny flameback) got afew mid size french angel too. Solid jewel damsel very bright blue spots.The rics are quite colourful too.

Hi bro CFOH, Where did you find this picture from? It is a photo of my old flame angel pair. Male and females r not differentiated by number of bars In fact I deliberately chose this female with less bars to pair with a male with many bars as I thought it would make for an interesting pair. Females have a rounder ana| fin and the blue edging in less pronounced. Compare it with the male which has a bigger n more pointed ana| fin Blue edging also more extensive. Stripes for flame angels r v variable and cannot be used to determine gender. Some have no bars at all. Cheers
